Summary
  • Kanae returns to the productivity stream layout, which he hadn't used since the last Len'en marble race.
    • This time the stream has Unity running in the background, rather than the race.
    • He explains that he doesn't actually have Unity on his streaming computer, so this is his first time installing and running it here.
    • He further explains that he'll try quickly recreating Watermelon Game on stream to make sure that his computer can actually handle it, in preparation for the coming Saturday's real deal.
    • Because it's just a test, he won't be explaining what he's doing during the process today.
    • He adjusts the layout of the UI elements to best suit his streaming layout.
  • Kanae mentions that he'll be working on 3 things today:
  1. Making sure that everything is ready for Saturday's game dev stream.
  2. "Something" that's he's currently working on.
  3. Adjusting the version of Watermelon Game that he already recreated behind the scenes.
  • Additionally, he also anticipates that he'll need original visual assets for the game, so he opened up Paint3D to make sure that can be streamed properly as well.
    • He mentions that he'll be using his older drawing tablet for this, since the one he actually uses is connected to his main computer and he doesn't want to move it.
    • While testing things out, he drew a crude version of himself.
  • Kanae also created the thumbnail for Saturday's game-making stream.
  • Kanae mentions he actually tried Watermelon Game in his free time, and even after playing the game still doesn't really understand why it's so popular.
  • Randomly and unprompted, Kanae mentioned to himself, "I should look for an image of Shibusawa Eiichi."
    • Apparently it was because he recalled that Shibusawa was going to be on the new 10,000 yen bills to be released next year.
    • On another whim, he decided to use a random online compatibility calculator to find out how compatible he is with Shibusawa.
    • He ultimately got an 85% compatibility rate from the quiz.
    • As he reads the results, he slowly leans into a character where he's in an poor relationship with Fukuzawa Yukichi, who's on the current 10,000 yen bill, but is hoping to get in a relationship with Shibusawa Eiichi in the coming year instead.
    • In the end, he mentions he's waiting for fanart shipping him together with Eiichi (which he did actually receive).
  • Having messed around enough, Kanae goes back to working while chatting with the viewers.
  • Kanae reminices on developing Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle:
    • He mentions that there are 314 dialogue files for the game (where the pre and post-battle conversations are separate files), and that he wonders how translators of the game ever managed to deal with it all, giving them a big thanks once again.
    • He recalls that although he did write a lot, it never caused him much distress, unlike music composition which was the toughest for him.
    • He mentions that during the peak of the composition work, he was making at least 3 to 4 songs a day, completing all the songs within 10 days (minus the songs already present in the trial version).
    • He was reminded of the fact that Kunimitsu Ooya's theme, Killing Superior ~ Giant killing, was highly cut down to its current in-game length, and notes that he might tidy up and release the full version in a music CD one day.
  • Kanae mentions that he recently went to Starbucks for the first time in his life, and had a watermelon frappuccino that they were selling as an event special, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
  • At the end of the stream, Kanae announces that he did manage to do everything he planned to do during today's stream, even if that doesn't translate to too much progress towards the upcoming Len'en anniversary.

Race Summary
  • The race was left on the "1 elimination per round" rules from the last time the race was used.
  • Kanae recalls that he still hasn't added Kurohebi's unique outfit version into Book of the Cafe, nor drawn the top three winners from the race during the productivity stream marathon, lamenting that he wouldn't be able to do so until after the anniversary.
  • Even though there was no reward for the winner this time, Kanae still cheered when Suzumi Kuzu got eliminated.
  • Top 3 winners:
  1. Tsugumi Umatachi
  2. Mitsumo
  3. Hibaru Kokutenshi
Summary
  • Kanae checks if Visual Studio could be shown properly with his stream setup and continues working on the Watermelon Game clone that he plans to release tomorrow.
    • He clarifies that tomorrow's programming stream would likely just be about making the mechanical system of the game, rather than the entire game, as drawing assets and such would take him a lot more time.
    • He shares that he has been enjoying making the Watermelon Game clone a lot more than he thought he would, and that it's been a while since he's had so much fun making a game. As a result, he has been spending a lot more time refining the game than he planned.
    • He admits that Book of the Cafe has a lot of work that doesn't relate to gameplay directly, which he doesn't find that fun.
    • He's therefore rather grateful for this Watermelon Game cloning exercise, because it allowed him to re-confirm to himself that he still likes making games.
    • He also elaborates that this actually reminds him a lot of his old work remaking the PC-98 Touhou games, where he'd replay the game a lot to analyse its mechanics and system then try to recreate it on his own.
  • Kanae shares that he found a perfect idle game to leave on screen while he works, though decided to leave revealing it for another stream.
  • Realising that there's nothing shown on screen, as he's not working on his streaming computer, he switches to the traditional productivity stream layout with the marble race in the background, and continues working.
  • Kanae mentions that when using free-to-use assets for Len'en, he'll always make some edits to the images before putting them into the game, but for the Watermelon Game clone, he just used the assets as is.
  • Once the game has gotten to a point Kanae feels alright with showing the viewers, he builds it and shows it off.
    • This reveals that his version of the game is based off of offering money at a shinto shrine (though a crow is dropping the coins instead), with the "fruits" being replaced with coins of various values and sizes.
    • The coins, in order of size, are "1 Yen", "5 Yen", "10 Yen", "50 Yen", "100 Yen", "500 Yen", "Kitasato Shibasaburō"[b], "Shureimon Gate"[c], "Tsuda Umeko"[d], "Shibusawa Eiichi"[e] and a secret coin that is not named[f].
    • He explains that this idea came mainly from the fact that which fruits combine into which other ones in the original Watermelon Game didn't feel quite intuitive to him, and so he come up with replacing them with coins to make it easier to remember.
    • He also adds that he changed how one loses the game, in the original, once the fruits reach the top line, the game ends immediately, in Kanae's game, the player has a leeway time of about 3 seconds to place one more coin in hopes of salvaging the game.
    • He admits that the game still isn't 100% complete yet, e.g. it still doesn't have a BGM, and that he'll continue working on it tomorrow in hopes of getting it done by tomorrow's stream.

Summary
  • Kanae starts out with playing the actual Watermelon Game to show off what he's trying to imitate.
    • He then explains that he'll be trying to recreate the game's mechanics using Unity only.
    • He adds that the complete version, Money Game (おかねゲーム), took him about 4 days of on-and-off work to make.
    • He also mentions that Money Game also has an "arrange mode", which allows the player the see 4 upcoming games and has a separate score board.
    • Additionally, he also added a "1 Yen Mode" available from the settings menu, which makes it so that the player drops 1 Yen coins exclusively, though this mode doesn't have a score board.
  • After that, Kanae starts explaining how one would go about making a Watermelon Game clone with Unity.
    • Having finished his walkthrough on how to make the basic gameplay system in an hour, he returns to playing Money Game.
    • He mentions that if he were to ever do another programming stream, it would be making a Vampire Survivors clone.

    • He notes that he also plans to add touch/mouse controls to the game soon, such that people can play the game on the go as well.
    • He plays one round of the game, hoping to be able to show off the hidden tier's ball, though ultimately failed and simply moved on.
  • Kanae decides on the coming week's schedule.
    • He teases that there'll be a Len'en-related announcement on the coming Staurday's anniversary stream, though he does note that it won't be anything major.
    • He decided that since Saturday will already be a chatting stream, Sunday's stream can be something else.
Day Stream
Monday Productivity Stream
Tuesday Gaming Stream: Watermelon Game
Wednesday Regular Break
Thursday Gaming Stream: Mushihimesama
(If the game doesn't run properly, Mahjong Soul instead.)
Friday Productivity Stream
Saturday 9-month Debut Anniversary Stream
Sunday Undecided
  • Kanae shows off that he got Placid Plastic Duck Simulator, which he got as he thought it'd be the perfect game to leave idling as he works during productivity streams.
    • The followings is a list of the ducks Kanae acquired in order, as well as what he named them:
Duck Name Reason/Notes
Yellow Duck Tabinoki N/A
Plaid Duck AKB48 Kanae somehow associates plaid skirts with the group.
Aluminium Duck WilhelmvonClausewitzHalcyonHISUIMARU Named upon suggestion by a viewer, as it is purple.
The name was entered without any interpuncts, effectively is equal to typing it without spaces in English, in order to make it fit.
Wood Duck Decoy/Tabinoki (Undecided) Kanae was quite fond of the this one, wanting one in real life himself.
  • In fear of losing all his time to the game, he closes the game and continues chatting.
  • Kanae plays Money Game one more time, this time on "Arrange Mode", hoping to show off the secret tier ball this time.
    • This time, he did manage to get the secret "Golden Ball !!". He then wanted to make another one to show off what'd happen if two are fused together, but he lost before he could do so, ending with 2,747 points.
