Strategies for Tsubakura[edit | edit source]

Below are scoring strategies for Unreal Tsubakura by Helio (world record holder of this category when creating the section).

Aoji[edit | edit source]

Nonspell 1 triple flashbomb:

  • Flashbomb on your way up to grazing the spiral, from there the 2nd flashbomb is right before the spiral swaps direction and then 3rd is immediately after. If your timing is good you can get another flashbomb back before the spiral stops.
  • This can gain anywhere from 100k to 250k per wave depending on where Aoji is relative to you.

Blue Storm chain flashbomb:

Tsubakura Blue Storm flashbomb position

  • Position yourself on Aoji's foot and flashbomb before the bullets start spawning. From there you just need to time flashbombs repeatedly. The timing isn't super strict with this position as you'll get your flashbomb back long before you need to flashbomb again. If you're going too fast you'll see a few bullets escape to the right. If you don't delay after seeing these, you will die. If your timing is good you can keep Max cancel value through the whole spell.
  • This strategy is worth upwards of 19 million. Video link

Leviathan:

  • Use the P in Power (残機 in Japanese) to align yourself vertically then sit under Aoji. flashbomb as much as you can. You have to move left and right a little to avoid the spiral all the while dealing with the RNG vomit that Aoji shoots that can just choose to kill you. It's not uncommon to spend a life and multiple bombs here. This is the most RNG dependent attack in the score run.
  • Generally, try to get over 30 million with no more than 1 miss.

Yabusame[edit | edit source]

Nonspell 1 graze:

  • Align yourself slightly above the Bomb text on the right side of the screen. Once the first wave spawns dash left to graze a little before flashbombing. Be careful not to overshoot as Yabu's hitbox is very big. From here you'll have to read the bullets that survive offscreen. Ideally you tap down a little and graze the 3 aimed waves right, flashbombing once the last aimed wave has reached its offscreen bullets before tapping up to graze the next initial wave and repeating the strategy.
  • Depending on how mean the leftovers are you'll have to go down further to graze and just accept not grazing the next initial wave.
  • This pattern is worth a little over 6 million on average.

Nonspell 2 graze:

  • Graze the bullet lane downwards, flashbombing after the lane goes offscreen. Repeat again before swapping sides. After swapping graze this side upwards a bit then graze down for the next wave then swapping sides again. From here repeat until the pattern is over. The slow bullets from the earlier wave can cause you to wait after swapping sides.
  • This pattern is worth 33-35 million.

Nonspell 3 graze:

  • Just do a simple half circle following the bullet trail flashbombing after reaching a decent ways upwards. If you flashbomb too late you'll risk deleting the bullet spawner which will lose you the next wave. Also, the bullet spawner is displaced to the right so when starting the even waves be careful of getting hit by the bullet spawner. This non takes some getting used to.
  • On average this pattern is worth around 18 million.

Loop Kingdom flashbomb chain:

  • Position as centered as you can, once Yabu shoots a wave, graze up then down, flashbombing once you reach the bottom. You'll have to make sure you're close enough to the bullet trails to cancel them as you need to move back centered right after flashbombing. Repeat this until the last wave where you'll want to get some extra graze instead of flashbombing.
  • This spell is generally worth around 7 million.

Spatial Erasure graze:

  • Position on this black mark on the flashbomb gauge (image below) to start the spell. Simply follow the laser stream down and up. Easiest 15 million in the game.

Kuroji[edit | edit source]

RNA graze:

  • Use the P in Power (残機 in Japanese) to set up vertically, if you don't have a flashbomb already then you'll have to do this very quickly. Move left till you're on Kuroji's leg. Simply time a flashbomb before getting hit. This position generally gets around 80 graze each wave. You can move very slightly up and very slightly right to get 120 graze each wave. If you move too much in either direction you will hit their hitbox and this position has a tighter flashbomb window.
  • This spell is worth around 5 million.

Clause

Nonspell 4 flashbomb chain:

Tsubakura Clause nonspell 4 graze
Tsubakura Clause nonspell 4 graze
  • Use Tsubakura's laser and the top of the screen to help position yourself horizontally and sit to the left of Clause. Graze the first wave then Flashbomb almost as soon as the next wave spawns. The timing is a little tight, too early and 1 bullet will escape and hit you. Too late and the first wave will hit you. Repeat this but don't flashbomb the last wave, instead just get your flashbomb back for Super Hyper Nova.
  • This is worth 10 million.

Eternal Forever flashbomb chain:

  • Speedrun your way to the last phase, do your best to end phase 2 as high as you can. Immediately dash to the right of clause, using both your laser and Tsubakura's sprite to align horizontally and vertically with the silhouette. From here flashbomb as soon as you get into position then time your Flashbombs till the spell ends.
  • This spell is worth 34-37 million making it the biggest score gain in the run. Video link

Details of Item[edit | edit source]

There are 5 types of items in Evanescent Existence: powers, points, 1-ups, bombs and yin-yangs (from bullet cancellation).

Item Statistics[edit | edit source]

Each attack of boss drops 2 large powers, 5 small powers, 3 large points, 5 small points. This means the items increase the point counter by 35. Here is the point counter you can get in each stage if you kill all enemies, collect all items and don't miss:

Stage 1 Stage 2 Stage 3 Stage 4 Stage 5 Stage 6 Stage Extra (Yabusame) Stage Extra (Tsubakura & Suzumi)
1270 (ordinary max power time)

Power Item[edit | edit source]

Type Not at max power At max power
Small power + 0.02 score + 100, point counter + 1
Large power + 0.50 score + 500, point counter + 5

Thrill-flashbomb Balance[edit | edit source]

In Evanescent Existence, each thrill is worth 100 × floor(point counter / 100) × difficulty multiplier, and the k-th bullet you cancel, when the gap between each two yin-yang items you get is within 50 frames, is worth min(5 × k + 95, 1,000).

  • Thrill is more important in high difficulties and item-rich stages.
  • When there are only a few dozens of bullets, prefer grazing them, or first grazing then cancelling.
  • When there are hundreds of bullets, prefer taking a hybrid thrill-flashbomb strategy.

Score Extend[edit | edit source]

You get an extra life when the score reaches 10,000,000, 20,000,000, 30,000,000, 50,000,000 and 100,000,000, followed by a screen clear. At the end of Stage 6 or Stage Extra, if you reach any threshold with the help of end-of-stage bonus and the bonus of the first extra life, you will get the extend accordingly. After this, you can no longer get any extend from score.
