Resigning[edit source]

I am formally resigning my administrator position here as I have become woefully inactive thanks to school and my spare time being taken by other projects that require it. I am also resigning because I very heavily disagree with the actions taken to "prove" JynX's gender -- I feel that sort of thing to be very deeply invasive towards them and I will not choose to stand for it. Auralis (talk) 03:19, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

I'm sorry to see you take off the mantle, but you could have handled this a lot more civilly than anonymously deleting the entire talk page calling it "cissexist garbage" in the edit comments and then not even using the right gender-neutral pronoun when reverting from the masculine descriptions. I, for one, would not have minded if you had argued your point in that discussion. Instead, I'm afraid to say that you've overreacted to a comparatively miniscule matter. If JynX really didn't want people to know about his/their gender, he/they would have chosen his/their words more carefully.
But knowing you, nothing short of an official confirmation to a direct question would sway your opinion, so I'll leave it at that. And seeing as that's not your only reason for resigning, I'd like to tell you to take care. You're still very welcome to help around the wiki at your own pace. --Popfan (talk) 08:30, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
It really is a shame to see this. It's more of a shame because of your second reason. What popfan said is right; if you do disagree with JynX's gender discussion, then by all means say so. Vandalism isn't the answer (assuming that ip user was you?). Saying that, not once did I see the discussion as 'cissexist'; anyone can assume someone is of a particular gender if they, y'know, reference their private part. This situation can be just as same if JynX happened to indirectly reveal his gender to be female. But, since you seem to be determined to drop down as an admin, then I'll have to remove your admin rights. You're always free to ask me if you want your admin rights returned if you wish. ― Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 12:20, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
I was at uni when I written my last comment, so I didn't had enough time to see and think what was going off. Now I understand everything, I'm afraid I cannot allow you to have your admin rights returned unless that, if you wanted them back, you can prove to be more civil with discussion just like the JynX gender one. Because, adding to that, it is indeed obvious that the IP address that was recently block is you. In no way is this invasive or cissexist; JynX has stated that he'll be more careful on what words he used in the interview, thus he used certain words that can publicly give an obvious indication to his gender. They're words that you'll least likely to make a mistake on. I shall say no more regarding this as I don't want to over-write. ― Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 19:51, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
Hi, so, if you look at Special:CheckUser you'll find that Auralis's IP is not the same as the other editor's (or mine). Thanks. --108.181.75.11 22:43, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
Edit to add: you'd need a ShoutWiki staff member to do this, since it's for check users and staff only, but if you decide that's not worth the effort, you probably shouldn't claim that Auralis made those edits. --108.181.75.11 22:44, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
I see. To be frank, I had my doubts that the IP I blocked was hers because I looked it up and it was from Wisconsin, whereas Auralis mentioned that her time zone was in the New York area, meaning she lives nowhere near that IP. So for the time being, I think I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that she had nothing to do with the discussion page being deleted and the persistent changes to the used pronouns being made. --Popfan (talk) 23:36, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
That's interesting. I mean, I knew I haven't got access to Special:CheckUser, so I cannot be 100% definite on who is who. I also never thought about checking the location of a user's IP address before I make assumptions (I'll ensure to do that from now on). It was a confusing matter: the fact that Auralis explicitly stated to not liking the discussion and the IP user 'vandalising' the wiki at the same time made a pseudo-obvious indication that the IP user and Auralis was the same person. But, it's all clear now, and I would also like to apologise to Auralis for assuming that she anonymously vandalised the wiki. Therefore, I take back what I said in my previous comment, so yes, you're status as an admin is still open.
Now, regarding the IP user who vandalised the wiki, the person with the IP address contacted me and admitted to be the vandaliser. Ze does seem to have an argument regarding the JynX gender issue. I'm going to give hir the benefit of doubt and unblock hir IP address to allow hir discuss the issue on Talk:JynX. ― Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 16:57, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
I didn't read the whole story about gender thing (personally, I find it silly to argue about that), just wanted to say my word on IPs. It's quite easy to change IPs, using proxies or VPN, so don't rely much on this value blindly. Necrotek (talk) 05:00, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
Hmm, that's interesting. I haven't studied much about IP addresses since I'm not really a networking person. I ought to look more into that. ― Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 18:39, 15 October 2015 (UTC)
