Chouki's Speech Patterns[edit source]
It seems as though Chouki adopts a unique habit of replacing the final character of their sentences with its Katakana equivalent, e.g. 新たな王となる者ダ
Currently, this is being reflected in the translation by capitalising the equivalent sections, e.g 'The one who will become the new ruLER.'
I did some digging around, though, and it seems like replacing the final character of a sentence is supposed to have an old-fashioned feel to it, even (perhaps) a bit of a patronising effect: see these sites for more information. http://oshiete.goo.ne.jp/qa/6627599.html

Though the current version demonstrates that Chouki is speaking differently to the others, I think it kind of makes them sound like a robot. To that end, I thought I'd leave this here to see if we can discuss a better way of conveying Chouki's speech patterns. Releska (talk) 08:49, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- Oh, I had no idea about that! That's really interesting. (This answer on Chiebukuro even cites specific time periods, too.)
- I had this line from Fumikado's scenario in mind at the time I was working on it: なんか声が変だと思ったら、そっちの提灯が喋ってるんだね (See, I thought their voice sounded strange. That lantern's the one talking.) But this sounds plausible too. If other people agree, I'd be on board with changing it. (Alss, if one wants to be absolutely sure, asking JynX directly is probably possible.) - Thanks for the comment - To be honest, knowing that the lantern's the one talking changes my thinking slightly. The 'robotic' tone makes a lot more sense now, and I guess it just shows that the current version is having the desired effect...? Perhaps we could even combine the two interpretations by using more old-fashioned language and the 'robotic' parts...
- Either way, I'll leave it here as a point of discussion. Releska (talk) 22:51, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Maybe use a different font? Using a different font would look nicer than the random caps, I think... Despatche (talk) 17:57, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
