So I'm having trouble getting these games to play on my laptop[edit source]

As much as I would love to help contribute to the wiki (especially the gameplay sections, might even be able to write up strategies if I can explain them well enough), my computer (Inspiron 3542 that runs on Windows 7 if that's relevant) seems to crash at varying points when playing any of the Len'en games.

The games usually crash when there is dialogue, when a boss appears, or when a boss uses a spell card at varying points. For example, there are times in the EMS Stage 6 Practice where I can get up to Yaorochi's second spellcard before it crashes, while other times it crashes when she uses xir first spellcard, some times it crashes when Sukune uses xir spellcard, or it happens as soon as Sukune even appears. These errors seem odd because my computer appears fully capable of running the game, but it almost seems like there's something interfering with the game that causes it to crash.

I was also able to run BPoHC fine for a while (sans a few crashes whenever a boss square is reached), but for some reason, when I tried to move it from my downloads folder into my Games folder, it stopped working properly and would crash every time a boss is reached...

So far, I've excluded the issue being locale related, as it doesn't have much of an effect no matter what I switch to (English, Japanese, or Chinese), but that's all I've managed to figure out so far. I apologize if this disrupts the wiki in any way, but I would very much like to be able to make these games work on my computer so I can play through them and possibly help improve the wiki.

These are suggestions I can think of so far, so I apologise if these don't work. Are the games stored on in a directory that contains non-Latin characters (e.g. "C:\連縁天影戦記\Le04.exe")? I had one issue a while back where this was the cause. Or, have you got Aero disabled? Some Touhou games are known to not run properly without Aero when played on Windows 7. Also, it's always a recommendation to keep the locale to Japanese. ― Tony64 (Talk/Con.) 10:18, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
As much I can say, looking back at Len'en games, it's not a uncommon issue, those random crashes. For example, it happened a lot for EMS when you would try to reach secret boss (luckily, the game worked fine while being played under OllyDbg). Or like it happened for me with BPoHC, it crashes both under Windows 8.1 (I don't know Japanese but I think JynX mentioned in twitter something about his game not working fine under Windows 8) with or without debugger, and Wine, so at this point I didn't have a chance to properly finish the demo even once, usually getting a crash before last boss on Stage 3. So, in case of old games, I can suggest giving a try running latest version under OllyDbg application, in case of BPoHC... can't suggest anything because I didn't find a solution myself (it might be related to 64-bit operating system but I don't have any proves).
