The Youkai Alliance (妖怪連盟, Yōkai Renmei) is an ambiguous organization that seems to be interested in bringing about a new emperor. The alliance seems rather disorganized, and even its name is not agreed upon, with Youkai Coalition (妖怪連合, Yōkai Rengō) being another possible name. Recently, they have mostly become organized and banded under a common leader, Taira no Chouki.[1]

General Information[edit | edit source]

For a period of time, the alliance supported Taira no Iwakado and subsequently Fumikado in their attempt to revive Taira no Masakado as the True Emperor and overthrow the Fujiwara dynasty of Devanagara. After Fumikado's failure in Reactivate Majestical Imperial, many of the alliance members lost faith in the cause. When the Dragonfly Castle revealed itself to Chouki, support was further shifted to supporting Chouki's efforts in becoming the new emperor instead. While the alliance was rather disorganized in the past, they have become a lot more organized under the guidance and command of Garaiya Ogata by the events of Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle, forming the Dragonfly Army amongst their members as well.

Politically, the alliance is considered by Devanagara to be the leader of the Sanctuary, instead of the Senri Shrine

Members[edit | edit source]

The following is a list of known members in the alliance, along with a brief description of their roles in the organization:

  • Taira no Iwakado: Came up with the plan to revive Masakado; Died before the plan came to fruition[a]
  • Taira no Fumikado: Leader in the plan to revive Masakado; Disgraced and wanted by the alliance after their failure; Has since given up on his revival but not on becoming the new emperor
  • Fujiwara no Iyozane: Fumikado's subordinate; In a similar position to Fumikado
  • Taira no Chouki: Leader of the alliance as the new emperor welcomed by the Dragonfly Castle; Once Fumikado's subordinate, but was abandoned by them and now wants revenge
  • Garaiya Ogata: Leader of the Dragonfly Army; Mentor to both Fumikado and Chouki (Abandoned Fumikado after the Dragonfly Castle's revelation to Chouki)
  • Para: Member of the alliance; Joined in order to exact revenge on Fumikado for stealing their body and sealing them away
  • Clause: Adopted by Garaiya; Tasked with finding and capturing Fumikado[a]

Branch and Member Organizations[edit | edit source]

The alliance is also known to have several large factions attached to them[2], although most of them remain unknown.

Dragonfly Army

Created by Garaiya in response to the capital's invasion of the Sanctuary, the Dragonfly Army is mostly made up of their shikigami, and is the only clearly known organization attached to the alliance.

Taira Clan

The Taira Clan in Mugenri is another large faction with strong ties to the Youkai Alliance. Although their role in the organization remains unclear.[3]

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Reactivate Majestical Imperial

Although never mentioned by name, the alliance's existence was briefly alluded to in the Music Room comments for Fumikado's theme.[4]

Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle

Sometime before the events of Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle, the Dragonfly Castle landed before Chouki while they were training with Garaiya and welcomed them within. Garaiya took this as a sign that Chouki was to be the New Emperor and swore allegiance to them. When Kujiru informed Garaiya that the Imperial Military was indeed headed for the Sanctuary like a certain source has informed Chouki beforehand, they gathered various youkai as shikigami in order to form the Dragonfly Army, so as to counter the capital's advances.
Meanwhile, Fumikado was confused that the alliance's forces were moving out without their knowledge, which lead them to investigate the matter by headed towards where the troops were coming from. (BPoHC - New Emperor Team's Haze Route)

Additional Information[edit | edit source]

  • Despite being another one of Fumikado's subordinates, Tsugumi Umatachi is not considered a member of the alliance[4] and they themself knew very little about the organization prior to the events of Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle.
  • Members of the alliance that did not join for a purpose related to the new emperor lack the musical phrase that represents the organization.[5]
