This is a documentation subpage for Template:Font color.
It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

Font color is how you insert colourised text, such as red, orange, green, blue and indigo, and many others. You can specify its background colour at the same time.

Font color is also how you can colour wikilinks to something other than blue for when you need to work within background colours. Normally ShionShion, but here we use a font color with |link= to create a pink Shion →  Shion . You can make any text link to any page using the |link= parameter.

This template will use the latest HTML5 recommendations, inserting the span tags <span style=color:color>...</span> and <span style=background-color:color>...</span> for you, so your page increases its readability and usability in both the wikitext and the rendered page.

Usage[edit source]

Font color has a one-colour and a two-colour form:

Either form has a |link= option, for colourising (otherwise blue or red) wikilink text:

|link=yestext
|link=fullpagenamefullpagename

You can also name the other fields:

You can name |fg= or |bg=, which is nice, but... if you name either of them, you must also name |, which is a compromise.

Spacing is of no concern:

.tan..text with four words.
. tan.. text with four words.
. tan.. text with four words .

Examples[edit source]

Markup Renders as
green green text
blue do not style text as a link
white white with black background
 default text in yellow background
default text in yellow background
Markup Renders as
white Wikipedia:Example
Wikipedia:Example
Wikipedia:Example

The |link= parameter is a good way to colourise wikilinks, and it is about as much typing as the pipe trick.

A wikilink also accepts a font color (or other template or markup):

[[Wikipedia:Example|white
the Wikipedia:Example page (a font-coloured link)

A font color does not accept a wikilink, it creates wikilinks itself with |link=:
