- Main Summary

- About the Monster Hunter Rise stream this Saturday:

- He jokes that he didn't get a driver's licence so that he can never drink and drive.
- He talks about the upcoming 3-month anniversary.
- He considers eating something special on stream, and is likely going to play another horror game again as well.
- When considering what to eat, he shares that he's never eaten McDonald's Japan's time-limited "Teritama" Burger, which has a pork patty with a sweet and sour teriyaki sauce.
- When he sees that it also has a version with tartar sauce, he decided on trying his first teritama burger during the celebratory stream, since he loves tartar sauce. He does, however, lament how expensive it is.
- He adds that his favourite McDonald's burger is the Roasted Soy Sauce Double-Thick Beef Burger (炙り醤油風ダブル肉厚ビーフ), previously known as the samurai burger.
- He considers getting four burgers for the stream, using the celebration as an excuse to be luxurious. Though he does worry that he'll only be able to eat two at most.
- Kanae managed to figure out the cause of the bug, which was apparently just a minor error in the code.
- He fixed it and confirmed that everything is working as intended.
- He notes that once BotC is complete, he'll be able to put the game up during these overtime sections instead of Idle Slayer.

Let's decide on the coming week's game! |
- Summary: Answered Marshmallow asks and interacted with chat
- On yesterday's Monster Hunter Rise stream:
- Kanae expresses that he does want to stream the game again, perhaps as the next staple game.
- However, the spot is currently taken up by Lobotomy Corporation and he does want to finish that first.
- He's wondering whether he should raise his rank off-camera to master rank so that the next stream would be more challenging for him.
- He asks whether the viewers have a particular (preferably endearing) nickname for him, since he wants to decide on one as well:
- Personally, he wanted it to include elements from "Tabinoki".
- He ultimately gave up on the idea.
- Next he decided on what to play on the next gaming stream.
- He decided to play Simple Fish Adventure.
- He also decided on the horror game to play for the 2-month anniversary.
- He ended up deciding to play Dark Deception on 18 March, starting from 22:00 (JST).
Games Under Consideration |

Under Special Considerations |

Horror Games |
Kanae wants to decided on one to play on 14th March, in celebration of 2 months since their debut.
|
Instead, Kanae counts that component as the time it actually takes for him to write up the story, profile, dialogue, etc. for the games. With that in mind, he gives the time spend for each when developing Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle:
- Music
He remembers it taking an extremely short amount of time, the average was 3 to 4 songs a day. Although not having to come up with new main melodies for the arrangement songs helped save a lot of time. Overall, he believes it took him 2 weeks to make all the songs.
- Art
Each character's portraits took him about 4 to 5 hours on average, so it likely took him about a week to do so for every character. Although there is quite a lot of variation from character to character, depending on how complex the design is, with some taking from 8 up to 10 hours. If including the design process as well, it may be more than 5 hours on average.
- Programming
This was definitely what took the longest, possibly around 30 to 50 times longer than he spent on the music or art.
- Story & Lore (In terms of in-game text)
Despite the immense amount of text in the game, Kanae was actually able to type it all up very smoothly, and the entire process didn't even take a week.
- Overall Ratio
Music:Art:Story:Programming = 1:1:1:50
Kanae doesn't really get sick from crowds, especially since he's been in very crowded places from a very young age and apologises for not being able to empathise with them. He suggests that there's no need to force oneself to get used to the crowds, to make sure to take sufficient breaks whenever they feel sick and try their best to avoid crowds if possible.
Kanae keeps whether he's living alone right now a secret, but does share that he has lived alone before. He mentions that it is a good chance to start new things, but there are also a lot more things you need to pay attention to. In particular, he suggests that one should pay attention to the resources they use, water, gas, electricity, etc. Personally, since everything ultimately shows up in the form of numbers on bills, Kanae finds that game-like and actually thinks it's rather fun.
However, he doesn't really think a creator who dabbles in a little bit of everything can really bring much to the viewers, and that it'd be better to just go to professionals in each field one is interested in instead.
When someone in chat suggested that he can talk about what game development in and of itself is, like what is the most important thing when developing a game, he does agree that it sounds like a good idea, though wonders if a video format with a proper script would be better instead.
When asked about the "Danmaku Beginner's Lessons" videos, Kanae reveals that he later learnt of a similar series of videos already exists where everything mentioned in his video was also mentioned. Thus, though he does want to continue the series, he has for now dropped it in favour of other endeavours.
Other suggestions included a "doodling stream", though Kanae himself admits that he can pretty much only draw character portraits and is a terrible doodler, as well as "danmaku creation stream", an idea that he seems fairly receptive to.
He was also suggested to make a playlist system for the cafe, where players can choose several songs to play in a certain order or randomly in their cafe. Kanae agrees that it's a good idea and adds it to his to-do list, though since it isn't a crucial element, it may come in a later update after the full version comes out. However, he does worry about how much space new songs would take up. In fact, he shares that songs taking up so much space is the main reason BotC has to rely on servers to store its resources, even though the songs are already quite severely compressed.
This is a question about those locations: When coming up with them, do you put in as much consideration as you do with the characters?
Or do you centre on the characters and story and make locations when the need arises?
Thank you!
He answers that he doesn't really consider the two to be separate things in the first place. In his view, Len'en is "a world with characters in it, and that the characters are a part of the world", in other words, "the world's setting = the characters".
In a sense, one could say that the world is first created and then populated with appropriate characters. Using BPoHC as an example, Kanae had long had the idea of the capital city "Devanagara". Along with the capital, Taira no Fumikado and Oama no Ake no Mitori's setting were also long in his mind. Conversely, while the idea of the Goefu as an organization of the capital had also always existed, its leader, Kaoru Kashiwagi, was never created until he decided to have the Goefu's leader show up as a boss in the game. In cases like Kaoru, characters would be created quite a lot after the location was.
When asked whether this means that the story comes before both the characters for Kanae, he again stresses that the two can't really be separated, as there would be no story without the characters. When creating Len'en, he first considered the idea that space exists, then considered how it was created, what it's like outside of this cosmos and how it all looks like. Then he considered how the world the story takes place on came to be, creating the planet he wanted to story to be on, in this case, basically Earth. There he then landed on Japan, where a lot of people lived, and amongst them characters such as Tsubakura Enraku and Yabusame Houlen had been born (though he quickly takes back the "born" bit, for reasons unclear.) Then he thought of the "natural principle(s)" or "system" that allows Mugenri to exist, though he adds that this may actually be what came first in this thought process. Because of this, Kanae landed on the answer that the story comes before the world and the characters in his creation process.
