Summary
  • Kanae's appearance has changed once again.
    • The birds on his head are gone.
    • He started the steam with a mustache, but quickly got rid of it after the start.
  • Today's race is that of group B.
  • Kanae worked on the animations for "Tenkai Zuifeng [RMI]" and "Sese Kitsugai [Ex]" from Book of the Cafe.
    • Since he plans to release the pixiv FANBOX article about them tomorrow, he'll be working to finish them off-screen even if he couldn't complete it within the hour.
    • While Kanae did progress with his work, there was apparently not much to show off.
    • He managed to separate out the various parts of the model from the drafts made during the last stream to be put into Live2D for animation.
  • Kanae confirmed that he's going to play GeoGuessr on stream the coming Sunday (5/2/2023).
    • Showed off the in-progress thumbnail.

Race Summary
  • From today onwards, the races will simply be "exhibition matches" for a while, until the next tournament.
    • Today's race features a new course, re-introducing the red "death zone", which kills any ball that touches it.
    • Death zones were technically featured in the stream before yesterday, where the zone was simply placed off screen.
    • In this course, the balls that hit the death zone don't lose any points, since it's so easy to hit it.
    • The course is themed after space, the large bumper in the corner representing Earth.
  • Results of the race:
  • Kanae is surprised at how Fake Tsubakura seems to consistently get a good result on the races, despite the balls all being functionally the same.
Main Summary
  • In celebration of Setsubun, Kanae has an Ehomaki sushi roll in front of his character, with the words "Ehomaki" (恵方巻) actually written on it.
  • Kanae mentions that he turned off Mashmallow's auto-tweets at the moment, as Twitter may be ending its free API access soon.
    • He notes that he can still access and read the questions on Marshmallow though, and that we are still free to send him questions.
  • Kanae mentions that he watched the special Armored Core VI presentation of the Taipei Game Show.
  • Kanae is again working on Book of the Cafe programming during the hour today.
    • Kanae is still a bit away from completing the unique customer system.

Summary: Answered Marshmallow asks and interacted with chat
  • Kanae's setup today:
    • Instead of a glass of melon soda float, on the table today is a cup of coffee with a coffee foam cat on top. (Although he's actually drinking earl grey tea today, which he apparently likes the best.)
    • Kanae now has a chair to sit on.
  • Kanae didn't know what to do in the awkward 5 to 10 minutes before the steam, so ended up playing LOST EGG.
    • He managed to get pass the log-jumping section on the challenge stage.
    • Although the stage does not end there, and there's more platforming before the egg can reach the frying pan.
    • Along the roof, other eggs are lined up, which can be pushed down and cracked, which funnily enough can be used as healing items.
    • Ultimately, he did manage to beat the challenge stage, and now he can play LOST EGG 2 "without any regrets".
  • On YouTube shorts:
    • Kanae mentions that he has uploaded the LOST EGG stream short.
    • He also mentioned that he considered making one for I’m going to die if I don’t eat sushi! as well, but since the entire game is so funny it's difficult to cut it down. So he's probably not going to make one.
  • Kanae again mentioned that he was going to play GeoGuessr tomorrow.
    • He stresses that he's going to try hard to read English, so encourages overseas fans to come join and help.
  • Kanae announces that chat stream days and gaming stream days are going to be swapped next week and onwards, giving the following reasons:
    • It's probably easier for people to stay up and watch him play on Saturday night.
    • He'd like to talk about the game he played the next day as well.
Q. Do you have any plans to make yourself a theme song, Kanae-chan? (かなえちゃんのテーマ曲を作る予定はありますか?)
Kanae would actually like to make himself a theme and play it on stream, but is unsure what kind of song to make it. They considered an energetic one not unlike the song playing in the background during the stream. In any case, he's to busy to do so right now, so it'll at least have to wait until after Book of the Cafe is complete.
As a side note, Kanae apparently still has to compose for BotC and misses composing, since he hasn't been doing any lately.
Q. (Sorry for English!!!) How do you pronounce Xeno a? Is "a" like their last name, and you can just refer to them as "Xeno"?
Xeno a does not have first or last names, "Xeno a" is a single name and is their full name. While Kanae didn't answer how to pronounce Xeno a directly, he read it according to the katakana reading provided in-game, "ze-no-a" (ゼノア).
As for why they're named "Xeno a", Kanae teases that it might be revealed one day. The one hint he was willing to give was to "consider why 'Xeno' and 'a' are separated" despite being one name.
Q. What's your favourite Windows Touhou game? (Win版東方で一番好きな作品は何ですか?)
This was an extremely difficult question for Kanae, but he ultimately chose the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
The chat also asked which of the PC-98 games were his favourite, but after a brief moment of pondering he gave up on answering and moved on to the next question.
Q. I'm always watching your streams!
I'll continue supporting you from here on out too!
Now to the quesitons: Please choose one from the following and answer it!
・Did the head Senri priest before Tsurubami have a name?
・Is "MO-NA-D" in Suzumi's themes short for something? If so, what is it short for?
※ If both are impossible, then please reveal one of the Evanescent Existence characters' basis. ☆
※※ If even that is impossible, then please use Vomit Punch on me! ☆
)
On the name Tsurubami's predecessor: They do have a name, they have one yes, they do. They indeed have a name, a name they do have. Possess a name they do, they have a name, yes.

On "Mo-Na-D": "Secret~! It's a secret~! Well it is an abbreviation though. It is a secreeeeet!"

Kanae didn't respond to the rest.
Q. Was the Eurasian wryneck ("Arisui" in Japanese) perhaps chosen to be the basis for the name "JynX" and Kanae's design because the word had the name "Alice" ("Arisu" in Japanese) in it?
I was wonder that maybe you chose it out of respect for Team Shanghai Alice or something like that. And there's a song titled "Alice Leaping Atop Lily Pad Ice" in Len'en too, so I wonder if the name "Alice" is an important word to Len'en as well?
)
"Ahhh well... yeah. Yep, yep. Alice... It's important, yeah." Kanae says that the reason and importance might be clearer if we looked into why "Shanghai Alice" was named what it was.
As a side note, Kanae had apparently once took Chinese as his second language back in university, aside from English, though he barely went to class and doesn't remember any now.
Q. Good evening, I'm always having fun playing BotC.
As for my question: Is there a purpose to making BotC's title theme have such an unsettling melody? It's like some kind of incident is about to happen in a lodge on a snowy mountain. (
)
Kanae answers that there is indeed, although since the game's story is barely revealed we wouldn't get it at the moment. For now, just treat it as a look into the atmosphere of the world.
Q. Good treevening! This is pretty sudden, but who's your favourite Len'en character, Kanae-chan? (こんの木!唐突ですが、かなえちゃんの好きな連縁キャラが誰ですか?)
There isn't really a character that Kanae likes universally across all times and it mostly depends on his mood at the time. He answers that generally Tsubakura Enraku, Sukune Katano, Sese Kitsugai are pretty well-liked, musing that he likes the shorter characters.

Ooama no Ake no Mitori is a character he quite likes as well, he considers them interesting and plans to have them do quite a lot in the future. As an extension, he likes Fujiwara no Shirogane no Sanra as well, especially as a pair with Mitori.
Going through the characters in order in his mind, he points out a few other characters he likes:

  • Kuroji Shitodo
  • Sukune (again)
  • Shion: Though they're tricky to handle.
  • Taira no Fumikado: Since he likes idiots.
  • Yago Ametsukana: Although they haven't had much time in the spotlight, they're likely to have a large talking role in the future, since they're in a nice position as a character. As a side note, he described their dialect as a "fake Kansai dialect".
  • Tsurubami Senri: Though they don't get to show up at all, since they're in the Outside World.
  • Rei and Zelo: Although there was a brief moment when Kanae wasn't sure whether they counted as Len'en characters, he ultimately considered that they do.

He ultimately couldn't deicide on a general favourite character and chose based on his current mood, telling the viewers not to take it too seriously. So, on a random whim he chose Sukune.
When asked whether it means that he likes all the characters evenly, he answered that he puts careful thought into every character that he creates (Clause aside), so he can't really pick a favourite character (other than knowing that it's not Clause).

He finally adds that he does actually like Clause as well, since he felt like that was too cruel to people who liked them.
  • For his first shrine visit of the new year, he went to the Meiji Shrine.
    • He lined up for a long time, but thought it only made sense for the most popular shrine for new year's visits.
    • He bought a fortune slip there and found out that it doesn't say what your luck is, like "Great Fortune" (大吉) or "Small Misfortune" (小凶), but instead has a random poem that Emperor Meiji, his wife or someone related to them composed, which he found interesting.
    • Kanae personally got one composed by the retired regent.
    • He did find this very interesting, but this also means that he still doesn't know what his luck for the year would be like yet.
    • He still wants to draw a normal fortune slip, so he's considering where else to go. One possible destination is the Sensō Temple, since even though it's popular, the new year period has already ended so it should be fairly empty.
  • Considered what games to play for next week's gaming stream.
    • Some games were removed since they were unable to be streamed with Kanae's current setup.
Games Under Consideration
If He Had a Switch
Games That He Wants To Play Once He Has More Time
Other Considerations
  • Fall Guys & LOST EGG I: Just in case nothing else can be decided upon.
  • Magic: The Gathering Arena: He does want to play it, but is worried about leaving the viewers confused.
  • LOST EGG 2: Since it supports multiplayer, he'll wait a while until his viewers get the chance to buy it as well.
  • A Castlevania game: He really likes the series, especially its music, but hasn't actually played too many games in it.
  • Driven Out: He had already completed the game once, but wants to get the word out about the game. (Kanae spent a long while explaining how the game works.)
  • FTL: Faster Than Light: He also wants to get the word out about the game.
  • Mess Adventures: It seemed similar to I Wanna Be the Guy, so was chosen to replace the it, since it couldn't be streamed.
  • There was talk about various Len'en topics:
    • Someone in chat pointed out that Taira no Fumikado's "The World Seen Through the Flask" sounds a lot more like a Para spell than a Fumikado's, Kanae explained that this was because Fumikado has a homunculus body.
    • He also pointed out that Yabusame Houlen used fairly complex kanji for their bomb, "Dimensional Detachment" (「次元剥離」), specifically in "detachment" (剥離), despite being Yabusame. He explains that this is because Tsubakura Enraku named it for them and that Yabusame themself would have never been able to come up with such a complex name. Although he later recalls the story better and realises that it technically wasn't Tsubakura who did so.
    • Someone in chat mentions that Kuroji Shitodo's Original Style "Black Wings [Shitodo]" and Inverse Blade "Inverted Swallow Reversal" sounds like they were named specifically in opposition to Tsubakura. (Likely to Tsubakura's Black Wings upgrade and Mysterious Card "Swallow Reversal" spell.) Kanae agrees and says that Kuroji is quite complicated and self-conscious, quite aggravating in that regard.
    • As a side note, Kanae thinks that Kuroji's danmaku are pretty typical of the genre, quite beautiful-looking.
    • When priased on Lumen Celeritas' theme, Kanae is thankful but is reminded that he composed the entire song in 30 minutes.
  • Kanae was asked what his favourite movie was.
    • He couldn't really decide, especially since he hadn't watched many movies recently.
    • The most recent film that he could remember watching and thought was interesting was Kingdom, which he watched with his friends in a theatre. He especially enjoyed it since he reads the original manga as well.
    • Kanae muses that life-action adaptation movies are getting better these days.
    • Other films that he remembers watching relatively recently and found interesting was Joker.
    • Yet another film he watched was It Comes, which he found interesting, despite the horror theme. Although he heard that fans of the original novel didn't like it much, he personally found it enjoyable.
    • On an unrelated note, he's a big fan of the anime Bleach.
    • Kanae is also a fan of the original The Transformers cartoon series, especially since it had a "Chargeman Ken! flair."
  • Kanae briefly touched on his hatred for Apple Inc.
    • He didn't get into the main reason, but explained another major reason which happened during his time at university.
    • The school made them all buy MacBooks as the default work computer all across school, but this made his programming lessons very difficult to carry out.
    • Another reason is how difficult it is to try to adapt BotC for the iOS, as well as to publish the game on the App Store.
    • Despite his hatred, he does use an iPhone, mainly because many services in Japan are only available to it. He laments this fact and hopes that Android catches on soon.
  • On drinking alcohol.
    • Kanae believes that he can hold his alcohol quite well, or at least as well as the average person, and he's quite confident in his ability to pace and restrain himself.
    • The only people he knows personally that can drink more than he can is his aunt, though he does know several people that can drink as much as he can as well.
    • Though he hadn't been drinking recently, so he thinks he had likely gotten weaker.
    • Kanae personally likes beer and whisky the best. He wasn't the biggest fan of whisky until not too long ago when someone suggested that he drink it straight without ice, which he thought made it much better.
    • Kanae stresses that it's rare to be able to appreciate alcohol immediately, especially since you go through 20 years (at least in Japan) not ever having tasted it. He instead recommends starting with weaker, more juice-like ones like certain cocktails or sours, if you want to try drinking.
  • Kanae talked about going to the Touhou Project 20th anniversary exhibition last year.
    • He mentions watching an interview with ZUN, where the latter talked about his goal of making a bar that provides a space where Touhou fans can gather and mingle, which Kanae thought was a great idea and was really touched by.
    • He also talks about seeing the actual PC-98 game cartridges as well as the documents on the story and settings of the games.
    • He remembers seeing a lot of surprising concept art and documents, one of the most shocking being where the word Cirno was written. He's not sure how people on the internet interpreted that piece of information in terms of lore, since he's the type to like to look into these things for himself.
  • On the development of Len'en:
    • When reminded of the acrylic keychains, Kanae reveals that he's been using time originally planned for the keychains on BotC development instead, since he really wants to get the game out soon. Thus, the keychains may have to wait until after BotC's release.
    • Kanae confirms that he's been working on BotC more since he started his Vtuber activities, since it really helps motivate him after a day of work on weekdays to work on the game.
    • When asked about the LINE stamps, first announced in the Len'en Project 5th Anniversary Video!, Kanae admits that he simply forgot about them all this time.
    • He might consider adding Kanae himself to the Len'en LINE sticker pack as well, or make a separate one for him.
    • Someone in chat says that they seem to recall that all the art for the stickers have already been completed, which Kanae doesn't exactly remember himself.
    • He also says that he might want to remake them, since his art style has almost certainly changed now. He fairly confident that he'll be able to wrap it up fairly quickly once he gets the time.
  • Kanae ultimately decided on playing LOST EGG 2 next Saturday.

  • He stared next to an Irish pub named "The Gaffe". He figured that since it says "Irish Pub", it couldn't be Ireland as there'd be no need to specify that it.
  • He found many of the buildings very similar and orderly, rather like in Kyoto.
  • Learnt from chat that he was in Old Town, Dubrovnik and where it is on the world map.
  • He tried to figure out his relative position by looking for the names of the church-like buildings nearby, but couldn't find them in-game.
  • Finally managed to find the very pub he started next to with help from chat, getting full points

2.The Bridge of the Americas, Balboa, Panama City, Panama

  • He started on a metal bridge. He tried to think of famous bridges, but the only one he could think of was the Golden Gate Bridge.
  • Chat informed him that he was in Panama, a name which he recognised from the Panama Canal.
  • Chat later revealed that it was the Bridge of the Americas, which prompted Kanae to search along the waters and finally found the bridge on the map.
  • He couldn't figure out which exact spot on the bridge he started at, so ended up not getting full points.

3. S. Angelo Station, Grand Canal, Venice, Italy

  • He started in the middle of a river in a gondola, which he immediately recognised as Venice, Italy. Although he doesn't know where in Venice he is.
  • When he couldn't find Venice on the map, chat told him it is in north-eastern Italy, upon which he found it.
  • When someone in chat wondered if the river is called "Venice River" (ベニス川, benisu-kawa), Kanae chuckled at how it can be misheard inappropriately, then reminded the viewer that Venice is "Benetsia" (ヴェネツィア) in Japanese, not "Beninsu".
  • Kanae was surprised to learn that the ferry routes are marked on the river on the map like bus routes.
  • Just based on how wide the river was, Kanae guessed that he was on the Grand Canal, though is unsure which specific point he was on.
  • When trying to look for one such ferry, he mistook the ferry docks as the ferries themselves, though later realised his mistake.
  • A viewer in chat reasoned that the port being named "Accademia" means that it's near the Ponte dell'Accademia and Kanae managed to find the bridge.
  • Having gone back to the start to figure out where he was relative to the bridge, he noticed that there's another ferry dock nearby titled "S. Angelo", and with the help of chat found where it was on the map, getting full points again.

4.Legoland Billund Resort, Billund, Denmark

  • The dioramas he started next to had Kanae thinking of locations with similar attractions, thinking of either Huis Ten Bosch in Japan or Legoland, but was unsure where it actually was.
  • Upon closer inspection of the dioramas, Kanae was almost certain that it was a Legoland, which was confirmed beyond a doubt by a signpost with the word "Legotop" on it.
  • Kanae was unsure which Legoland it was, but chat confirmed that it was in Denmark and guided him to find it on the map.
  • Halfway through looking for his exact position in the park, Kanae was scared by the stretched person produced by the moving camera that was seemingly following him, shouting that he "didn't realise that Geo Guessr was a horror game".
  • He found the Legotop on the map and realised that it was near where he started as well, once again getting full points.

5. Château de Chambord, Chambord, Centre-Val de Loire, France

  • Kanae was once again spooked, this time by the person holding the camera.
  • Kanae started next to a castle-like building, which reminded him of Germany. Kanae couldn't move at all for this location, which made it very difficult to guess where he was.
  • Someone in chat identified the castle as Château de Chambord in France, which Kanae was quite convinced by after looking it up.
  • With guidance from chat, he managed to find it on the map, getting full points again.

Round Summary

  • Kanae realises that he was basically being remote-controlled by the chat in this round, but was still filled with a sense of satisfaction upon finding the locations and was happy with the game.
  • Kanae takes a screenshot of the game results to post on yo Twitter, so that he can "brag about how good he is at the game".
  • Kanae praises and thanks his treeshrooms (viewers), saying that they're high-grade mushrooms, like Matsutake or Shiitake.
  • Kanae didn't really feel like the "famous places" category had a lot of famous places, other than Venice.
  • Hoping that it wouldn't take as much time, Kanae chose "Japan" as the theme of the next game.
Round 2: Japan

1. Tochigi Prefectural Road Route 10, the "Utsunomiya-Nasukarasuyama Route"; Around Tanokura, Nasukarasuyama City, Tochigi Prefecture

  • Kanae noticed a sign nearby that mentions the East Japan Railway Company and guesses that he's in eastern Japan.
  • Upon closer inspection, the sign also mentions the Tanokura region of Nasukarasuyama City, although he has no idea where that is.
  • Chat informed Kanae that it is in the Tochigi Prefecture.
  • He found a road sign at an intersection that pointed towards several locations, among them the prefectural roads route 233 and 10 as well as an "Oogane Onsen Grand Hotel". Using these landmarks, he found the intersection on the map.
  • Back at his starting place, using a split in the road and an intersection in the opposite direction from the previous intersection, he managed to find the relative position he started at on the map.
  • He tried hard to get the exact spot but still got it off by 7m. Regardless, he managed to get full points.
  • When he zoomed out and saw Utsunomiya City, the capital of the prefecture.

2. Wakayama Prefectural Road Route 219, the "Shimokawa-Kamuro Route"; Near the Eguchi Bridge and Yasu River in Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture

  • He started next to a tabunoki tree (Machilus thunbergii), which he found humorous with how close to Tabinoki it is.
  • He managed to find a map but couldn't really make out the words. However, someone in chat did point out that the words "Tanabe City" can be found on the post next to it. Kanae doesn't know where that is either, so someone in chat told him that it's in the Wakayama prefecture and he quickly found it on the map.
  • Someone in chat said that Kanae was "left" of the Nachikatsuura Town, which prompted him to look for the town on the map. Kanae found it and pointed out that the Kumano Nachi Grand Shrine that he wants to visit is nearby, although he doesn't see how it relates to his starting position. The commenter later realised that they made a mistake in their comment.
  • Returning to his starting position and going the other way, he found a prefectural road route 219 sign as well as a T-shaped intersection that leads to the Japan National Route 371 on both sides. Searching along route 371, Kanae found where it intersects with route 219, but couldn't find where he was even by going along it.
  • Re-inspecting a nearby bridge, he found that the river next to the road runs through the Yasu River Valley (安川渓谷) and that the bridge is called "Eguchi Bridge" (江口橋).
  • He also realises that route 219 merges with and runs along route 371 and following that end finally lead him to the bridge, which the map revealed to actually be read "Kouguchi" instead of "Eguchi".
  • By using Kouguchi Bridge as a landmark, Kanae started going back the way he went in-game in order to find where he started but went way past the tabunoki tree, which he didn't notice until he looked at chat.
  • Ultimately though, he did manage to find where he started, getting full points again.

Round Summary

  • Kanae never moved onto the next round, as the stream had already passed 2 hours in time.
  • He still thought it was a bit of a miracle that he started next to a tabunoki tree in the second round.
  • He was extremely surprised by how difficult the game was in Japan, since he thought it'd still be famous landmarks or world heritage sites.
  • He thought that the game does help with learning more about world heritage sites, particularly in regards to where they are. Although he was surprised at how niche the famous places seemed to be this time.
