- Talked about the creation of Kanae and related assets:
- Stressed how long he spent coming up with Kanae's name, with the same level of particularity as the Len'en characters' names.
- In particular, both Yabusame Houlen and Tsubakura Enraku had over 100 potential names, but eventually narrowed them down by choosing the ones with the best and deepest meanings.

- Mentioned that the inside of Kanae's hair is green.
- Talked about how the icon image made for Kanae reminded them of an election poster, so he made an actual election poster for Kanae too. Roleplayed the situation for a bit.

- Summary
- Talked about catching COVID-19 in December last year.
- Sick for over a week.
- Only took the first vaccine shot, as the doctor recommended he stop after he developed myocarditis as a side effect.
- Almost completely healed, though still coughing.
- Made a self-introductory profile:
☆★☆ 旅ノ木 かなえ ☆★☆ |
☆★☆ Kanae Tabinoki ☆★☆ |
- Answered Marshmallow asks
Is Tabinoki-kun's gender unknown? (旅ノ木くんは性別不明ですか?)
Kanae, what gender should we refer to you as? (It'd be rude to assume that having a deep voice means you're a guy.) Also, I loved your chuckle in the announcement video!
Sorry about the English.
As for Kanae's "core personality", JynX, he isn't sure how much distance should be placed between the two, so fans are free to think of the two's relationship at their own discretion. Kanae personally considers himself someone who "helps with work on the Len'en series," rather than the creator of the series himself. In his mind, they are "both the same person and separate people, a very ambiguous but convenient relationship".
And I also want to know your favourite bird! Since I became interested in birds and started amateur birdwatching thanks to the Len'en series...
(そして旅ノ木さんの一番好きな鳥を知りたいんです!連縁シリーズのおかげで鳥に興味を持ち始めてバードウォッチングをするようになったので)
Kanae also adds that he enjoys birdwatching himself, and birds come by his house every now and then. He also reveals that his design is based on the Eurasian wryneck whose genus name is Jynx. He also thinks that they're cute, and that they vaguely look like dinosaurs. Additionally, he points out two unique points about the Eurasian wryneck:
- That they imitate snakes when they sense danger by twisting their heads. He explains that the word "jynx" comes from the Greek nymph Iynx, who made a love charm also called "iynx" to make Zeus fall in love with someone else and thus got transformed into a wryneck bird as punishment. "Iynx" (or rather "jinx") thus came to be a world associated with love or controlling love, and is considered a negative thing both in Japan and overseas. So he wonders if the wryneck's snake-like appearance was offputting to someone, and hence the myth. Regardless, this association with snakes is referenced in the red cloth wrapping around his arms through the sleeves.
- That their tongues are extremely long, which they use to eat the insects in trees. Again referenced by the cloth around his arms, in particular how they are red.
This he doesn't feel like makes for a very beautiful stream and is too embarrassed to stream it.
- Considered which game(s) to play on tomorrow's stream.
- Noted that he has to make streaming guidelines for Len'en. Especially wanted to note that you are allowed to show off the endings.
- Considering playing a Len'en game, but is worried because how of difficult the games are, compounded with the fact that Kanae hasn't played a bullet hell game in a while.
- Considered playing Touhou games, but are worried that his inner Touhou fanboy will be revealed.
- Kanae got Pokémon Violet since a friend of his got Pokémon Scarlet.
- Ultimately decided upon playing Fall Guys, as it is the simplest. May play with his viewers as well.
- Others
- Decided on hashtags, signature phrases and terms for his vtuber and streaming activities with the help of chat. See Kanae Tabinoki#Livestreams for the full list.
- Joked around and refused to acknowledge Clause as one of his "children" (characters), again expressed surprise that they're so popular.

- Summary
Kanae played Fall Guys for about an hour on stream, which happens to be doing a collaboration with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at the moment.
- He wanted to get the Aludin skin, but conceded that he hasn't put nearly enough time in the game to get it.
- After losing, Kanae pretends to have lost all memory of the previous rounds, making every game his first time playing. Leading to jokes about being trapped in a time loop.
- In the final game, Kanae managed to win for the first time, breaking the time loop.
- However, he still refused to acknowledge the lost rounds, saying that it only took him 15 minutes to win, and not 55 minutes.
The stream ended around 11:15 (JST), with a second productivity stream to come at 11:30 (JST).

- Livestream Description
/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
- Summary
Kanae worked on refining the Rei marble game, hoping to add more courses, gimmicks and characters to it.
- At the end, showed off how he managed to add Zelo and Lin into the race as well.
- Mentioned that he wants to add the other Len'en characters too.
- Joked(?) that since making yukkuri versions of every character would be too much work, he might just cut out their heads from the in-game portraits and use them as is.

- Livestream Description
/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
- Summary
- Kanae explained that the "2h" in the thumbnail does not mean that the stream will go for 2 hours, but that it means "2nd hour", for the second productivity stream (asides from the first one).
- Kanae showed off the changes to the Rei marble game he made off-camera.
- A new course was created.
- Made characters that time-out explode.
- Added a system that shortens the next round by 5 seconds if every character made it to the goal.
- Added a system that lengthens the next round by 10 seconds if over 1/4 of the characters didn't make it to the goal.
- Kanae worked on further refining the Rei marble game during the hour.
- Added a "best time" system, the ball that improves the best time gets an additional +100 points.
- Added Clause to the game, indeed by cutting out their head from the in-game portrait as he said he may last stream.
- Kanae also made and showed off the thumbnail for tomorrow's productivity stream.

/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
- Summary
- Kanae shows off new additions to the race game, which he worked on off-screen after yesterday's stream.
- Added every character from Evanescent Existence (Tsubakura Enraku and Tsurubami's Tsubakura disguise are considered two separate characters).
- Reduced the total number of balls to 12, the 3 monochroids plus the 9 EE characters, with no duplicated characters.
- Kanae worked on adding the Earthen Miraculous Sword characters into the race during the stream.
- Showed off the result of his work after the hour, indeed with all 7 EMS-original characters added in, for a total of 19 characters.
- Expressed that he'd likely eventually add every character into the race, although that would require refining the scoreboard to accommodate so many characters.

/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
- Summary
- Kanae showed off the adjustments made to the Len'en marble race.
- The first course is used again, now with slight adjustments.
- The scoring system has changed, with the 1st to reach the goal being awarded [Total # of balls x 10] points, and each subsequent ball awarded 10 points less. This was to greatly reduce the chances of negative scores appearing.
- Kanae worked on adding the characters from Reactivate Majestical Imperial into the race during the hour.
- Every character from EMS was indeed added into the game (Sese Kitsugai's stage 1 and Ex+α forms are considered two separate characters).

- Summary: Answered Marshmallow asks and interacted with chat
- Talked about Kanae's general vtuber activities.
- Mentioned how the channel is almost at 500 subscribers.
- Considered doing a celebratory stream once that is reached, perhaps a drinking and chatting one.
- Considered adding Rei and Zelo plushies to his desk.
- Considered making a general stream schedule, something along the lines of "Productivity streams on weekdays, something else on Saturdays and Sundays".
- One of the asks reminded Kanae that he mistitled the chatting streams as productivity streams, which he fixed during the stream.
I'd like it if you made some sort of rules for the streams. (配信上のルールを作ってほしいです。)
Just something... more than the official YouTube rules have. (公式である以上なにかこう……欲しくて。)
It's fine even if you reference those of other Vtubers so...... (他のVTuberさんを参考してもいいので……。)
Please make it so that everyone can support you in peace!! (みんなが穏やかに応援できるようお願いします!!)
配信のゆる~いルール「旅ノ木憲法」 |
Lenient Stream Rules "The Tabinoki Constitution" |
- Kanae was asked about if the music playing was composed by Kanae himself. He answered that it is free-to-use music.
- Joked that Kanae is the "Vtuber who uses everything that is free" while JynX is "someone who makes everything by themself".
- Although Kanae does want to use the songs that he's composed during a stream someday, he's worried that using Len'en songs would trigger a copyright violation as YouTube would detect the songs as being from Rei and Zelo's channel and thus he'd be unable to monetise the stream.
- He also considered songs not yet uploaded onto Rei and Zelo's channel, like Critical Point Bidding its Last Farewell or songs from Book of the Cafe, but since others have already uploaded the songs onto YouTube, he fears that a copyright violation would still be triggered.
By the way, I can't really catch most of the streams since they're so late, (ところで深夜帯は時間的に観れないことが多いので)
so I'd like it if you could stream at times other than late night as well❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️ (深夜以外で配信する事があればして欲しいです❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️)
As for Saturdays and Sunday, Kanae would rather focus on BotC development during the day, and push the streams later into the night.
- About Donations
- Someone sent Kanae some money through the super chat function, after which Kanae thanked them but reminded the viewers that they should only donate what they can afford.
- Kanae briefly promoted his pixiv FANBOX, and mentioned that he wants to do something to repay high-donating people after BotC is complete, and so has been listing the donors on an excel worksheet.
- Though he does worry about people changing their usernames and thus being double-counted.
Since one of the reasons Kanae's streaming activities exist is to promote the Len'en series, this actually helps him out.
Kanae also mentions that it's alright to depict him with a different outfit as well.
Kanae briefly sings to opening to Kid's Festival ~ Innocent Treasures, but simply answers that it might happen one day, though he's very embarrassed about it since he had never sung in front of an audience before.
- Kanae was also asked what songs he sings with his friends at karaoke.
- Since most of his friends are from the same generation, they usually sing anime songs and popular jpop songs from the period, Kanae himself is particularly fond of BUMP OF CHICKEN.
I would like to ask where you learn of games like The Elder Scrolls series, which you mentioned on the 16th's chatting stream, with a good setting and lots to do in? Is it from your friends after all?
Also, this is not a question at all, but I'd like to recommend a game called "Merciless Smile". It's a story-focused free game that's up on Freem!, just like the Len'en games. I'm unfortunately unable to comment on YouTube, so apologise for the long post in Marshmallow.
While he has indeed gotten recommendations for them from his friends, it's mainly through exploring on his own that Kanae finds his games, like by looking on online gaming news sites, as well as searching through the genres that he likes on Steam and looking at the new games on Steam's top page, which he adds to his wishlist as long as they look interesting to him.
Kanae mentions that he now has 175 games on his steam wishlist.
Kanae says that he'll look into it later, but makes no promises.
Although he does like games with a good world setting.
When it comes to atmospheric games, especially those with a creepy atmosphere, Kanae does enjoy them, but would like them to remain creepy at most, and not become straight-up horror.
- Kanae was asked if he believed in ghosts.
- Kanae replied that he wouldn't be surprised if they did exist, but he believes he never had any supernatural encounters himself.
- Although he does believe in UFOs and has seen one before, back during his school days from the school window.
- He saw a large, shimmering, rugged, rock-like metal object flying low next to a bunch of high-rises, too large to have been a man-made object.
- It was during a lesson, so he whispered to the person in front of them about it but they seemed to not really know what he was talking about, or couldn't see it.
- The object finally flew between a gap between the buildings and disappeared.
- Kanae is absolutely sure he saw it, and quite strongly believes that it was a UFO.
- On the Development of Len'en
- Someone in chat described Kanae as "the person who came up with Suzumi dialogue, but he stress that he doesn't really "think up" the dialogue, but that the characters speak on their own in his mind and he simply writes it down.
- Someone mentioned that Len'en doesn't really have horror elements, Kanae responded that he does try to give an eerie, creepy feeling to Len'en at times, but does not want to take it too far into the level of horror.
- As an example, for Shion and their boss fight, he wanted a mild and subtle horror vibe to it, but the first design he came up with was far too scary. To the point that Kanae himself felt that it was too scary even as he played the fight, so he toned it down.
He jokes that if he actually did a drawing stream, people would say that he can't actually draw and has a ghostwriter artist. But most important is that he's simply too embarrassed for one, and so would probably not do an art stream for one.
Kanae goes on to explain that he doesn't really like sweet food that much, and is especially bad with traditional Japanese confectionary, with things like red bean paste, sugar candies and millet jelly. As for dango, he likes them if they're paired with soy sauce, but not with red bean paste. He still eat them when offered to by someone else, but wouldn't go but them himself. He is instead fond of western confectionary, things like cookies, cream and custard, in particular, one that he particularly likes are éclairs.
Ultimately, if he had to choose, since smooth red bean paste sticks to your mouth, mashed feels slightly less sweet and so he went with team smooth red bean paste.
- Kanae was also asked whether he prefers Japanese or western food in general.
- He answers that it's a difficult choice but he probably prefers western food overall. He likes ginger grilled pork, beef bowls, hamburgers and curry, although he isn't sure what curry shout be counted as.
- Kanae also really likes Chinese food, particularly dim sum like dumplings, siu maai and sweet and sour pork, the final one especially because he's fond of pineapples.
- As for pasta, Kanae prefers carbonara; while for French cuisine, he likes gorgonzola risotto.
- He also likes eating cured ham with melon.
- He reveals that he doesn't really know what came over him when he ate a hamburger mid-stream during his debut, and that he "came to his senses" mid-burger and never finished it during the stream.
- The chat brought up Tenkai Zuifeng due to the mention of melons and Kanae jokingly ponders if Tenkai's head accessory is the entire cured ham leg itself.
- When suggested to do an eating stream, Kanae said that he might eat something while streaming as a celebration for reaching 1000 subscribers.
- Considered what games to play during tomorrow's gaming stream.
- When suggested to play Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, he revealed that he had already bought the game on stream when he decided to start being a Vtuber, as it is a very "Vtuber-like" game.
- Suggested games that were ultimately put on hold:
- A Len'en game, which Kanae would like to have time to practice before he did so on a stream.
- A Touhou game, but Kanae said that he would have to check for any streaming guidelines first.
- Jump King
- I Wanna Be the Guy
- FromSoftware games, which are very long but not rejected, since Kanae just likes them that much.
- Tetris 100, which he's apprently quite good at and has won before
- Ring Fit Adventure, listed as "I hate exercise" (運動きらい) on the list
- Mario Kart
- Smartphone games
- Splatoon
- A Monster Hunter series game, which Kanae has apparently been a long-time fan of.
- A game from the Kirby series, of which Kanae has apparently not played the newest entry to, and is waiting for a new Air Ride game.
- Games considered but are rejected for now since they would take a long time:
- The Mother series, which Kanae had never played before.
- Undertale
- Yume Nikki
- A Final Fantasy pixel remaster game
- Kanae does note that he only has a Nintendo Switch Lite, which he has no way to record. So he will have to either borrow his brother's Nintendo Switch or buy one himself. Thus Nintendo games are put on hold for consideration for now.
- Games that entered final consideration, either short games or easy to pick up and put down:
- LOST EGG
- Magic: The Gathering Arena
- Yakiniku Simulation
- I’m going to die if I don’t eat sushi!
- Cup Head
- Fall Guys (again)
- Minecraft
- Kanae was leaning towards LOST EGG by the end of the stream, although he has to check whether it works with his streaming setup before it can be confirmed.
22 January 2023[edit | edit source]
(【LOST EGG】お腹を痛めて産んだ我が子【旅ノ木かなえ】) (link)
- Livestream Description
/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
/ I _ I \-------------------------/ ~ _ ~ \ |
- Summary
- Kanae plays LOST EGG for about 2 hours.
- Kanae reasons that since he is technically a bird, it is his duty to protect the eggs you play as in the game, which he calls his "children".
- The game has 6 stages, 5 standard stages and a challenge stage.
- Standard Stages
- Kanae is briefly confused as to whether to identify as the eggs themselves or the egg's parent.
- He ultimately decided to be the egg's parent and to explain that he is moving the eggs by psychokinesis.
- Kanae named the stage 3 egg Columbus and the stage 4 egg Vasco de Gama.
- Kanae was stuck on stage 4 for the majority of the stream, almost an entire hour out of the 1.5 hours stream.
- Kanae started playing the orchestral music from Orpheus in the Underworld, by the end of which he finally won the stage. He attributed the victory to the song played and kept it playing for the rest of the stream.
- Managed to clear all the standard stages, although did not get all stars on them.
- Kanae once again jokingly refused to acknowledge any loses, saying that he cleared every stage on the first go with ease.
- Challenge Stage
- Started the challenge stage, but never managed to clear it.
- The challenge stage requires jumping continuously across several pillars, which the char compares the Onbashira pillars.
- Kanae mentions that he actually went to the Onbashira Festival last year, and saw the pillars being erected.
- Kanae times his jumps by counting various things, from numbers to the Chinese zodiacs to elements from the periodic table to Len'en characters in order.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- ↑ A reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey. He also made a reference to the movie at the beginning of the stream.
- ↑ A pun on the title of a famous advertisement song, "What Tree Is This Tree" (この木なんの木 kono ki nan no ki).
- ↑ Kanae later thought that this didn't make it clear that he was streaming so decided to change it, and repurposed the idea as his greeting catchphrase.
- ↑ 4.0 4.1 Originally mistitled as a [Productivity Stream] (【作業配信】), but was rectified during the stream on 21 January 2023.
- ↑ A reference to how old the Len'en series is at the time of the video.
- ↑ Kanae lists the Elder Scrolls games and indicates how far along he is with them. ✕: Unplayed. △: In the middle of playing. 〇: Finished. ◎: Played a lot of.
- ↑ Kanae remembers a similarly worded question being asked in Marshmallow but couldn't find it.
